Vinnolit GreenVin®

For the production of our GreenVin® products, we use high-quality Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (GOs/HKNs). This reduces the carbon footprint of Vinnolit GreenVin® PVC by about 30% compared to our conventional PVC products. For our GreenVin® caustic soda, the CO2 saving is even more than 75% compared to conventional caustic soda.

Furthermore, the company also offers GreenVin® bio-attributed PVC based on renewable ethylene from second generation biomass and GreenVin® circular-attributed PVC based on circular ethylene from mixed plastic packaging waste.

GreenVin® PVC

Depending on the PVC type, the carbon-dioxide savings with GreenVin® PVC are about 30% compared to conventionally produced ®Vinnolit PVC. The respective carbon footprint for the entire product portfolio was calculated in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14067 and the Together for Sustainability PCF Guideline (Version 3) and certified by TÜV Rheinland. GreenVin® PVC is technically identical to conventional PVC, performs just as well, and is also a more climate-friendly product that our customers can feel good about using.

GreenVin® bio-attributed PVC

GreenVin® bio-attributed PVC is produced with renewable electricity and ISCC PLUS-certified renewable ethylene from biomass. The CO2 savings of GreenVin® bio-attributed PVC is more than 75% compared to conventionally produced Vinnolit® PVC (Based on a cradle-to-gate Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) study by Sustainable AG reviewed by TÜV Rheinland, in accordance with the ISO 14067 standard, taking into account biogenic CO2 fixations). In this regard, with GreenVin® bio-attributed PVC, we rely on non-food biomass (second generation), such as plant residues and waste materials, which does not compete with the food chain. Westlake Vinnolit sources the renewable ethylene from from OMV and other partners, replacing fossil ethylene in PVC production. GreenVin® bio-attributed PVC is ISCC PLUS certified, using the mass balance approach.

All PVC grades are also available as GreenVin® bio-attributed products. The technical specifications are identical.

GreenVin® circular-attributed PVC

Westlake Vinnolit’s GreenVin® circular-attributed PVC is produced with renewable power (GOs) and circular ethylene based on mixed plastics packaging waste, which cannot be mechanically recycled. It is mass-balanced according to ISCC PLUS and guarantees the same product quality as when using fossil raw materials.

GreenVin® circular-attributed PVC is particularly suitable when the application requires PVC recyclate with a quality equivalent to that of virgin material.

GreenVin® Caustic Soda

Caustic soda is an important basic chemical, of which more than nine million metric tons per year are required in Europe alone. The carbon footprint of our GreenVin® low-carbon caustic soda from the Gendorf and Knapsack (Hürth) sites is reduced by more than 75% compared with conventional ®Vinnolit caustic soda. (1)

The respective carbon footprint for the entire product portfolio was calculated in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14067 and the Together for Sustainability PCF Guideline (Version 3) and certified by TÜV Rheinland.

(1)  The savings shown are based on the annually updated average product carbon footprints (PCF). The exact PCF values for the individual products can be found in the respective PCF certificates. Please note that the PCF is influenced by various factors and may therefore fluctuate annually – for example, due to changes in the electricity mix or updated emission factors from databases and suppliers.
