TekniPlex fully focuses on lower-carbon Vinnolit GreenVin PVC for film production

  • From July 2022, TekniPlex switches completely to Vinnolit GreenVin® PVC with a lower carbon footprint.
  • Produced with renewable power, the carbon-dioxide savings with GreenVin® PVC are about 25% compared to conventionally produced Vinnolit PVC.

TekniPlex is a market leader in thin gauge PVC film for adhesive tape applications utilized for a variety of purposes and the largest manufacturer of such substrates in the world. TekniPlex manufactures film produced from emulsion PVC resin, designed to be used as backing in the production of adhesive tapes, which can be used in both indoor and outdoor applications to create a strong, permanent bond. From July 2022, the company will completely switch to Vinnolit GreenVin® PVC, which is produced with renewable power, based on high-quality renewable energy certificates (Guarantees of Origin / GOs). Depending on the PVC type, the carbon-dioxide savings with GreenVin® PVC are about 25% compared to conventionally produced Vinnolit PVC. The respective carbon footprint for the entire product portfolio was calculated by Sustainable AG in accordance with the ISO 14067 standard. Review and certification are carried out by TÜV Rheinland.

Bryan Wesselman, VP of Sales and Marketing for TekniPlex, said: “We continue to explore relationships, seek partnerships and introduce solutions that benefit both our customers and the planet. Westlake Vinnolit’s commitment to producing its GreenVin® resins with 100% green power aligns well with our goal of reducing our carbon footprint wherever possible, and always without sacrificing product quality. We will continue to find and value arrangements that boost sustainability action plans while maintaining exemplary product performance and customer satisfaction.”

TekniPlex’s decision to switch to GreenVin® stems from its longstanding commitment to implementing sustainable solutions wherever possible. The partnership is the latest in a series of strategic moves from TekniPlex, aligning with the company’s ethos combining sustainable-minded materials science solutions with its customers’ business needs such as product performance, supply assurance and competitiveness.

“With GreenVin®, we are working to make the entire Westlake Vinnolit product portfolio more environmentally friendly and sustainable,” Dr. Karl-Martin Schellerer, Managing Director of Westlake Vinnolit, added. “At Westlake Vinnolit, we are proud to be contributing our part for a stronger industry and a sustainable future. In doing so, we rely on cooperation with leading companies that, like us, focus on future-proof and sustainable solutions.”
